Jul. 4th, 2018 01:24 pmNicaise dragged his feet coming home. He knew the sight of his bruised face and swollen lip would make Laurent angry, and that the cat in his arms probably wouldn't help. It would definitely distract from what happened, but maybe not in a good way. He wasn't sure.
The cat, at least, was letting him carry her. She wasn't mauling him with her claws or wriggling to get away, she seemed content enough to be taken somewhere else. He hoped it didn't mean something was wrong with the cat. He'd checked for blood and broken bones but hadn't been able to see anything worrying, other than she was kind of scraggly looking.
When he got to High Gate, Nicaise lingered in front of the door. But there was no getting around it. He let himself in, and called a timid, "Laurent?"
Maybe he wasn't home.
